The Legal Grey Area

Posted by Professor Prepostera on November 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM

I say, good day to you fellow Toons! My, my, my, it has been quite nearly two years since I've last reported on my findings of an ongoing research project of mine at Loony Labs titled The Grey. But the phenomena's study has made progress!

Let us begin the discussion at hand with some background information. You see, despite the natural creative lacking of The Grey, Toons have used it more increasingly to a much more creative advantage. Especially, much to my intrigue, in Lawbot Headquarters.

In Cog facilities, many Toons have discovered areas that can be reached through the Grey to completely bypass the Cog security that lies there. An OUTSTANDING creative approach, I might add! A pesky one too, however.

As more and more Toons have abused the antisillions and glitchinitives for their advantage, the Cogs have begun patching the leaks in their facilities to counter this effort. Likewise, the Toon Resistance Rangers have been reporting increased Cog outputs due to our lack of defeating them. Luckily, brand new methods of escape have been found in some of the factories to help those who used the glitches as an alternative to solving certain puzzles!

The Grey's true nature still remains unknown, but the progress being made leads us closer to a discovery. Perhaps we'll have an answer soon enough -- or in another two years, HAH heh! Heeeeh.

Now, back to my research. Be careful as you traverse the facilities, my friends - the Toon Resistance reports that these Cog counter-measures shall be rolled out in the coming days.

November 24, 2015 [ttr-beta-v1.10.10]

Bugfixes:
• Fix glitches in the Cashbot Mint and Lawbot DA offices that allowed players to skip battles and puzzles.
• Fix a few visual glitches relating to Toon eyes.
• Fix an issue where nametags and shadows may disappear in Cog Golf Courses.
• It is now easier to see Toon speech during Boss Battles.

Tweaks:
• Collisions have been slightly tweaked for better gameplay.
• Implement new means of escape! To make sure no Toon gets left behind, some obstacles now have a timer that will reveal a shortcut when it hits zero. You won't get left behind if you can't complete a puzzle, but you may lose some Laff and a few rewards.

Aww, I was hoping that the flaw would remain unknown to the toons at loony labs, still tho, great idea adding that timer!

Treedo said on November 24, 2015 at 12:05 PM
OOO There is much excitement! I'd enjoy seeing this update!

Stonepaw said on November 24, 2015 at 12:15 PM
At first I was disappointed that the glitches were removed, but since you implemented this new future, I'm super excited to test it out!

Sir Milton said on November 24, 2015 at 12:17 PM
At least I'll get a hint on how to do the puzzles. Thanks, TTR!

Princess Rosie said on November 24, 2015 at 12:19 PM
The Grey sure is mysterious. Can't wait to see those new means of escape! Hopefully the research won't take two more years. Stay toontastic!!! :3 :D

Cool Candy said on November 24, 2015 at 12:24 PM
Hmm, very interesting! I never knew this grey area existed, but Im glad this is fixed so the toons can't skip anything! Also, Im glad that you implemented the timer, the cog obstacle course in the mint always messes me up!

Captaindandypretzel said on November 24, 2015 at 1:31 PM
Those cogs never give up do they? Well only time will tell about what they have planned now.

Mirai said on November 24, 2015 at 1:32 PM
Could this mean that the cogs are working on a new project?

Duckling said on November 24, 2015 at 1:38 PM
Wow. Cool! I did see a Bug where people slept with there eyes open. Thanks TTR.

WhirlingWinds said on November 24, 2015 at 1:43 PM
This is really intriguing... I can't wait to find out how it works! I've never even seen anything like it before on a TT server. I don't usually skip the puzzles, but sometimes I'm with people that do; also, I never was good at minesweeper, so I'm always a little nervous around Find the Skulls. By the way, does anyone notice how the Mover and Shaker Skelecog Mega-Invasion is still going, even after it was all supposed to stop? I smell Field Offices!

Funny Quackers said on November 24, 2015 at 1:44 PM
Good alternative. The grey is amazing.

Super Mouse said on November 24, 2015 at 1:52 PM
Good idea! This will help alot. :)

Dr. Presto said on November 24, 2015 at 2:11 PM
The glitching has always been a sore subject with me, especially since many toons use it as a means to get rewards that they didn't earn, or go places they aren't prepared to go. Good Job.

King Droopy Electrohoffer said on November 24, 2015 at 2:51 PM
Darn cogs, they've only gone and upped their security. This is the start of bigger things... [plays eerie Twilight Zone-esque music]

Pop said on November 24, 2015 at 2:58 PM
Now people can't do this thing called... what was it? ah, yes! green newer toons! :D

Crash said on November 24, 2015 at 2:59 PM
@Roxy according to this message absolutely nothing out of the norm, this is just telling us to stay out of narnia, er, I mean the "grey"

Little Emperor said on November 24, 2015 at 3:08 PM
Quite sneaky! Well, I'm still gonna be working on those puzzles.

King Cricket said on November 24, 2015 at 3:15 PM
Aw man... I liked the graphical glitches on the eyes. Especially when they were stuck in "Surprised" mode.

Llamacorn Warrior said on November 24, 2015 at 3:35 PM
Toontastic! No more cheaters anymore! Now everyone will have to toon up and stop glitching!

Prince Bacon The Second said on November 24, 2015 at 3:44 PM
Good, too many toons were using that to cheat and it left the other toon no other option! it's not fair to them when you do that toons and it isn't very toony! must've been cogs in disguise.... toonbots......

Ooowoo said on November 24, 2015 at 4:21 PM
I think these improvements are overall for the better. Nobody likes something that is TOO glitchy do they?

Amazing Dreamer said on November 24, 2015 at 4:36 PM
Sounds cool. I wonder what's gonna happen next... :D

Dusty said on November 24, 2015 at 4:56 PM
Finally, an ending of a type of no reward sneaky toons.

Espurr said on November 24, 2015 at 6:54 PM
Darn! I liked those little shortcuts! :) Guess we'll all have to tough it out and fight our way through the puzzles and battles.

Mousey said on November 24, 2015 at 6:56 PM
yay, i am so happy they fixed the grey glitch in lawbot offices. I don't like when toons skip the puzzles.

Crazy Smirky Twinklesnoop said on November 24, 2015 at 9:41 PM
I'll admit, I did always find it fun to rarely find an opening to The Grey and just float past everywhere, but if getting rid of that means making ToonTown a more stable and fair place to play, then I'm all for it. And who knows? Maybe some day in the future, we'll be able to use The Grey and it's properties to our advantage, like for special events or minigames that otherwise couldn't work or something like that.

Thumbelina said on November 24, 2015 at 9:48 PM
Some people will hate me for saying this, but YAY! I was absolutely SICK of toons glitching in the mint and DA offices. I mean, Thank you SO MUCH!!!!!

Megasnoop said on November 24, 2015 at 10:10 PM
Hmm, we REALLY gotta keep track of what the cogs are up to! Who knows their next plan...

Cecil said on November 24, 2015 at 10:34 PM
Look out glitchers, Loony Labs is calling you OUT...

Sweet Madam Blue said on November 25, 2015 at 1:37 AM
Heck I'm just so happy that all my short cuts are still there and working! Now If I can only rub a cog belly and whola my TTO almost maxed toon would appear! Oh yeah the laugh meters above your head.........absolutely genius!

Captain Daisy said on November 25, 2015 at 3:31 AM
The Grey was in the Lawbot HQ? Interesting... I myself have encountered The Grey -by accident, of course- but I did not know it had wiggled its way into the HQs! Glad to know you got it fixed, Professor! I'm happy that the 'eye glitch' has been fixed! After a few days of having one or both of my eyes stuck closed, I was getting ready to send in a report. Stay Toony! ~Captain Daisy

Cool Pinky said on November 25, 2015 at 5:47 AM

King petalswirl said on November 25, 2015 at 1:39 PM

Those cogs are up to something big, perhaps a battle attack plan or even a new cogs? A son of Big Cheeses? Hah just thinking about that makes me laugh!

Slumpy said on November 25, 2015 at 1:59 PM
Glad they fixed the toon's eyes one. When my toon throws in his sleep he's not very accurate.

Ned Sourfuddy said on November 25, 2015 at 6:47 PM
The Grey is quite a mysterious entity in the game. It gives us a lot to think about.

Ducktor Neil said on November 26, 2015 at 3:58 AM

Shadow Claw said on November 26, 2015 at 7:04 AM
Man, The cogs are getting in our heads, i never approved of toons using the grey to an advantage, now we have realized out mistakes. I wonder what this new escape route is

Weird Curly Megaquack said on November 26, 2015 at 9:29 AM
Thank you so much for this! I hated having to glitch that one room in the Mint, but I literally could *not* figure out how to solve the obstacles. Now I don't have to worry about being trapped there forever, *and* I won't have to feel like I'm cheating to get through! :D

Flapjack Featherflap said on November 26, 2015 at 10:36 AM
Anyone else find it kinda strange how those signs in the image are pointing downwards? No? I guess that's just me. Anyway, definitely looking forward to the tweaks/bugfixes. I'm actually quite glad they're patching the holes. I never liked it when other Toons would glitch through them while I'd be stuck behind working on the puzzles. Great job, TTR team!

spellduck said on November 28, 2015 at 10:16 AM
Pfft! We can make it through their defenses no sweat!

Deputy Poppy Nickelhopper said on November 28, 2015 at 10:24 AM
